Is a Cleanse Program for Me?

Your day probably starts out with some sort of cleansing ritual such as a bath, shower or washing your face, right? We know that we need to clean the exteriors of our bodies everyday. This helps to keep us smelling good, free from harmful bacteria, and our skin looking fresh and soft. What about the insides of our body? Isn’t it equally important to give our interiors a good cleansing?

You have probably heard the words “cleanse” or “detox” thrown around. “I really need to detox my body” or “Wow, I just did a killer juice cleanse”. Cleanse programs are becoming more and more trendy. It is easy to get confused with all the flashy marketing and bombardment of options when it comes to cleanse programs. You may even become disillusioned and think, “Is cleansing a marketing scheme or is it actually good for my body?”

This post should help you to sort through the confusion a bit, and understand the benefits of participating in a quality cleanse program that has your body’s needs in mind.

What Type of Cleanse Should I Start With?

There are so many different cleanses out there on the market. Some involve only drinking juice, while others involve a variety of supplements and shakes. There is certainly a place for many different types of cleanses depending on your health needs, activity levels, and tastes. I tend to recommend for people to start with a food-based cleanse. If chosen wisely, food can be highly therapeutic and healing. It was Hippocrates, after all, that said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”.

I also like food-based cleanses as they are so easy to implement several times throughout the year. Often we simply need to reset our bodies and get back on track. Even the healthiest of us “fall off the wagon” at times and need a little nudge back in the right direction.

Why Participate in a Cleanse Program?

A cleanse a year helps the doctors steer clear! With all the toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis through our food and environment, our liver is forced to work overtime just trying to keep us healthy! When the toxic load of our bodies is too high, we feel tired, have trouble losing weight, experience difficulty sleeping, and our skin no longer has that healthy glow.

By participating in a quality cleanse program, you will enjoy foods that are easy for your body to digest and do not contribute to causing inflammation. Foods such as dairy and gluten have been identified as common allergen foods for many people. Eliminating these foods removes some of the stress placed on the liver and allows the digestive system to work more efficiently. As a result, the body will be able to begin to release and process toxins more effectively.
